How I Made a Laocoön Sculptural Candle — A Unique Handmade Candle

Handmade Sculptural Candle Inspired by the Classic Laocoön Statue

Ever wonder how ancient sculptures can inspire modern sculptural candles?
This is the story of my Laocoön candle — a handmade decorative candle inspired by a famous classical sculpture.

The Laocoön Sculpture Story

The original Laocoön and His Sons statue was made around 1st century BC by Greek artists.
It shows Laocoön, a Trojan priest, and his sons fighting sea serpents sent by the gods.
The sculpture is famous for its emotion and detail and is displayed in the Vatican Museums today.

Why I Made This Sculptural Candle

I love sculptures that show strong emotions, and Laocoön is a great example.
Instead of copying the full scene, I created a simple bust candle — just the torso with a broken stone block behind it.
It’s a small piece of history you can decorate your home with.

How I Made the Candle

At Artmood Studio, I start with 3D sculpting in ZBrush.
Then I 3D print the model, make a silicone mold by hand, and cast the candle in soy wax.
The candle is about 14 cm tall and comes in fresh lavender and eucalyptus scents.

How to Use Sculptural Candles in Your Home Decor

One of the coolest things about sculptural candles like the Laocoön candle is how they double as art pieces and candles.
They’re perfect for adding a unique vibe to your living room, bedroom, or even your office.
Because they’re both handmade decorative candles and unique candle designs, they fit great on shelves, coffee tables, or sideboards where they catch the eye without needing to be lit all the time.
Plus, the subtle scents like fresh lavender or eucalyptus add a calming touch to your space, making the atmosphere more relaxing.
Whether you’re going for a modern minimalist look or a cozy, artistic style, these candles help create a warm and inviting environment that sparks conversation.

Sculptural Candles Are More Than Just Candles

You can light this candle, but it’s mainly for decoration.
I make unique candle designs that combine art and home decor.
Each candle is a conversation piece.
